BDC Laboratories’ PD-1100 provides a highly versatile, reliable, and repeatable pulsatile flow source for accurately simulating physiological hemodynamics in vitro in industry and academic testing environments.

The PD-1100 is controlled by our proprietary Statys® PD software, which enables sinusoidal or arbitrary waveform driver excitation through either an adjustable built-in controller or an optional integrated waveform creator tool for realistic device simulation. Hardware-based timing ensures beat-to-beat repeatability, while real-time parameter review offers immediate performance feedback.

The PD-1100 is controlled and monitored by our proprietary Statys® PD closed-loop control and monitoring test software, featuring:

    • Sinusoidal or arbitrary waveform driver excitation to accurately simulate clinical performance
    • Hardware-based deterministic timing for exceptional beat-to-beat repeatability and reproducibility performance
    • Integrated data collection for real-time reviewing of test parameters
    • Optional data collection and analysis toolkits for a variety of applications, including heart valve prostheses and valve repair devices
    • All measurement signals can be saved in high-fidelity for post-test analysis
    • User-focused software environment to facilitate ease of system operation
    • Highly versatile and adaptable for any general cardiovascular, stent, stent graft, heart valve, or valve repair application

TTL System Trigger

The trigger provides an output TTL signal that synchronizes the PD-1100 pump with secondary systems, such as particle image velocimetry (PIV) systems.

High-Speed Video

Integrating up to three high-speed cameras transforms the PD-1100 pulsatile pump system into a comprehensive research tool. The system synchronizes video with pressure and flow waveforms and replays footage at a user-defined frame rate using the integrated video player, allowing full visualization of the target dynamic response. Integrated tools enable dimensional measurements directly from the video.

Autonomous Run Module

The module makes it possible to conduct extended-duration tests in a controlled, monitored, and documented environment without operator supervision (e.g. the PD-1100 system continues running overnight). The package includes historical plotting, alarm safety features, statistical data logging, and a downsampling data logger option.

Multi-Mode Waveform Controller

The controller allows users to switch between up to three predefined run conditions (e.g., normal to an atrial fibrillation mode). When the operating mode changes, the pump immediately transitions from the current run condition to the next predefined run condition.

ECG Signal Module

When pairing the PD-1100 with clinical equipment that operates using an ECG signal, the Statys® PD ECG Signal Module generates a true ECG waveform to interface with the clinical equipment.

Downsampling Data Logger

Reduce sampling rate and create a more manageable data file. This is useful when high-rate recording (e.g., 1 kHz) is unnecessary or when running long-duration experiments.

Hydrodynamic Testing Module

The hydrodynamic testing interface enables the user to perform real-time valve analysis based on the ISO 5840 standard. The data is segmented into individual pulses and then further analyzed based on user-set cursors that indicate key events in the cycle.

Hardware Accessories

Oscillating Flow Pump Head

This head enables the PD-1100 to function as an oscillating flow source. Its single, large-diameter inflow/outflow connection creates the appropriate interface for use with ex-vivo beating heart models.

Pulsatile Pump Head

The Pulsatile Pump Head transforms the PD-1100 into a positive displacement pulsatile pump. It features barbed inflow and outflow ports with one-way valves and delivers self-priming performance, allowing convenient inclusion into a fluid loop.

Hemodynamic Flow Conditioner

This all-in-one addition to the PD-1100 emulates the vascular bed and includes directional valves, a fluid reservoir, a compliance chamber, a resistance element, and an optional heater.

Heart Function Emulator, HFE

Connected to the pulsatile flow pump, this module emulates the heart’s contractile and resistive conditions to produce a more clinically relevant flow and pressure source for cardiac applications. It includes an impedance element and compliance chambers, with adjustable volumes to tune the shape of flow waveforms.

Fluid Isolation Module

This module isolates the test solution from the pump fluid, enabling users to run particles in the test solution without damaging the PD-1100 drive seals. It also preserves sterility without requiring treatment of the PD-1100 driver assembly.

Diastolic Pressure Control

A tunable element replaces the standard Pulsatile Pump Head outflow assembly to control diastolic filling pressure in a cardiac flow network, creating a more clinically relevant pressure environment for prosthetic valve applications.

Fluid Heating Reservoir

This component controls the temperature of the system fluid and provides a convenient system filling location. It includes a heating element, inflow and outflow ports, a drain valve, a temperature probe, and a safety switch.

Acrylic Compliance Chamber

The chamber acts as a dampening element that allows the operator to tune the pressure pulse and mimic the elasticity of the arteries in the vascular bed.

Additional Pressure Transducers

Each PD-1100 pulsatile pump system includes one pressure transducer by default. The Statys® PD software and data acquisition hardware supports up to three additional transducers, enabling comprehensive pressure measurement in any mock circulation loop.
